Description:

In this course, we will take a tour of the 5 primary sectors of construction, and consider the different types of structures that are built in each sector. By taking a bird's eye view of built environment, we can see that the construction industry meets the needs and demands of a society and culture. Each sector of construction serves humanity in a different way by providing for the basic needs of a community. From shelter and access to critical resources, to gathering places, grocery stores and subway systems, each sector of construction creates a piece of the built environment. This course considers how each sector is different and how all of the pieces fit together.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the common characteristics of the 5 construction sectors.
  2. Explain the differences between Residential and Commercial construction and give an example of a Mixed Use Project.
  3. Understand what the construction of Infrastructure is all about and name who funds the projects.
  4. Grasp the size and scope of Industrial projects and explain what sets them apart from construction projects in other sectors.
